Paperbacks

While these would seem to be conventional books they are manufactured by a Print on Demand process which means that Mr Darcy doesn't need to hold stock; books are printed as required. It also has the advantage that the books need never go out of print.

Sample Text

These are quite short computer files that can be downloaded for free. There are four samples for each book and one chosen at random will appear each time one is requested. For convenience they use the PDF format. If you don't already have the free Adobe PDF reader, it can easily be obtained free from www.adobe.com

Ebooks

The ebook is a computer file which, after payment, will be sent down the wires to your computer. Mr Darcy cannot cope with the fact that some of this may, in reality, be wireless. The normal format is PDF.

Reading Ebooks on Ebook Readers

The ebook files can be easily transferred from your computer to an Ebook Reader. Virtually all Ebook Readers will accept PDF files. For the novels, which are pure text, this should not present any problems. With some, such as the Kindle it is advantageous to put them into the landscape mode for easier reading. Some readers may present the pictures in the non-fiction books not quite in the same way as the printed versions.

Reading Ebooks on Computers

Ebooks can easily be read on your computer. This requires an Adobe Acrobat Reader piece of software so that the file can be viewed. Mr Darcy was surprised to find that these files are so common that most users will already have the Reader on their computer. If they haven't, it can easily be obtained free from the link above.

Mr Darcy likes his books at normal book size but it has been pointed out to him that most computer and printer systems work with A4 size paper and that there will be less pages; so most ebooks are offered in A4 size. The ebook can be read from the computer screen (many of the younger people seem not to mind this) or a single copy can be printed out for those who like to hold the real thing.

Tip: To print on both sides of the paper set your printer to print the 'odd' pages in the normal order ie page 1 first. Most printers will produce the pages with the printed side up and then place the next sheet on top of the first. Normally this is a nuisance but can be exploited here. Let the printer produce all the 'odd' pages and then turn over the stack and print the 'even' pages. At the top of the stack it will print page 2 on the back of page 1 and so on. When finished you will have the complete book, printed on both sides of the paper; and in the correct order!
